We Brits can learn many good things from our fellow Europeans; appreciating good wine being one of them, particularly when set amongst the relaxed and sophisticated setting of Negozio Classica – an Italian wine bar, shop and restaurant in Notting Hill and Primrose Hill.
Since its start in 2002 Negozio Classica has been part owned by the Italian vineyard, Avignonesi, that supplies its wine. Something very unusual for wine bars in London, thus allowing the place to stock top quality wines exclusive to the premises. Prices for wine by the glass start from £4 and go all the way up until £17 with many of the wines either organic or bio-dynamic. For those who haven’t heard of the latter term of phrase it is a method of organically cultivating land according to moon cycles and produces wines with exceptional flavours of the terroir.
When coming here, the wine tasting of 4 or 5 wines (50 ml) for £15 is a great way to find out more about the wines on offer. We suggest choosing wines from the Avignonesi range such as the Vignola and Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano, and if you’re enjoying yourself as much as we did, you may walk away with your very own bottle. Alternatively, pick any bottle in store and pay £8.50 corkage while choosing from the superb menu of nibbles. The antipasti of cured meats and cheeses and the bruschetta platter is fantastic. Lastly, if you ever feel like a great holiday, the owner gave us a heads up that all you wine lovers out there can go and visit the vineyard itself for some sunshine and grape talk – ideal! If you’re interested contact the restaurant for more info, or just pop in and say hi.
